Dreamers are the Best of America

Butler & Harris is proud to support NELA’s Statement On The Trump Administration’s Decision To Rescind DACA:

The National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) condemns the Trump administration’s unjust and cruel decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This decision will harm more than 800,000 young adults, tear families apart, and damage the unity and fabric of our communities.

These young people, called Dreamers, are in school or working. They seek nothing more than to get an education, hold a job, earn a decent living, and contribute to the well-being and prosperity of the United States, the country in which they have lived most of their lives and is their home. They pay taxes and contribute to this economy. All workers and advocates for working people should see this for what it is; another attempt to fuel divisions among people striving to build their lives, contribute to our economy, and our nation’s communities.

The Dreamers are our coworkers, our neighbors, and our children’s classmates. They courageously volunteered detailed information about themselves to the U.S. government because of their faith in, loyalty to, and passion for this country, which is their home in every meaningful way.

NELA calls on the United States Congress to honor the Dreamers’ investment in America’s current and future prosperity and pass the DREAM Act of 2017 immediately.

The National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA) advances employee rights and serves lawyers who advocate for equality and justice in the American workplace. It is the largest professional organization in the country of lawyers who exclusively or primarily represent individual employees in labor, employment, and civil rights disputes. NELA and its sixty-nine circuit, state, and local Affiliates have a membership of over 4,000 attorneys.
